 Solving a Problem

A few weeks ago, my husband and I met with a general contractor. We talked with this professional about building an addition onto our small home. At this time, he informed us about a problem with our septic tank. We learned we would have to relocate a couple of septic lines before construction could begin on our home. Are you considering building an addition onto your house or business? Before you get too far along in this complex process, think about consulting with someone from a reputable septic service in your area. An expert from a septic service can inform you if your current septic tank will be large enough to accommodate the addition. On this blog, I hope you will discover the most common tasks performed by septic services. Enjoy!

3 Things To Keep In Mind When Renting A Portable Toilet In The Winter

Debra Chapman

You can rent a portable toilet in the winter time. There are just a few things that you need to be a little more aware of when you rent a portable toilet in the winter time. You need to think more carefully about the location and maintenance of your rental toilet in the winter time.

It's All About the Location

When it comes to renting a portable toilet in the winter time, it is all about the location. There are multiple location factors you need to look into when you are renting a portable toilet.

First, you need to find a location that has some solid ground.  You don't want to place your toilet anywhere with soft ground. Anywhere where the ground gets really wet puts you at risk of the toilet sinking into the ground and potentially tipping over. The best type of ground to place a portable toilet on is paved ground. If that is not available, gravel or an area with a solidly packed surface is a good choice.

Second, you need to think about the wind factor. Winter wind can be really strong, and having wind whip around you when you are using the toilet can make the experience extra frigid. Try to put your toilet somewhere where the wind will not hit it. Think carefully about where the strong winds are coming from, and position your toilet so that it will not get hit by the worst winds in the area. This will help keep the portable toilet safe and will also help make the experience of using it not so cold.

Third, think about where the sun is at. In the summer, you want to put portable toilets in the shade to minimize heat and reduce smell. In the winter, you are aiming for the opposite. You want to place your portable toilets in the sun to help keep things warm.

It's All About Keeping Things Clean

When it is cold outside, keeping things clean are extra important. The tank of the portable unit you are renting can actually freeze up, which is why it is good to schedule weekly cleanings during the winter time.

That way, the toilet is always cleaned on time. You don't have to worry about the toilet freezing up or things getting dirty. Also, in the winter time, more dirt will get tracked into the toilet space, so those extra cleanings will help to keep things nice inside of your rental unit.

In the winter, you want to place your portable toilet on solid ground, in the sun, and protected from the wind. Also, schedule weekly cleanings to deal with all the moisture, mud, and salt that will get tracked into the unit. Weekly cleanings will also help you avoid a full and frozen tank. Keep these special considerations in mind if you are renting a portable toilet this winter.  Contact a company, like American Portables, for more help.
