 Solving a Problem

A few weeks ago, my husband and I met with a general contractor. We talked with this professional about building an addition onto our small home. At this time, he informed us about a problem with our septic tank. We learned we would have to relocate a couple of septic lines before construction could begin on our home. Are you considering building an addition onto your house or business? Before you get too far along in this complex process, think about consulting with someone from a reputable septic service in your area. An expert from a septic service can inform you if your current septic tank will be large enough to accommodate the addition. On this blog, I hope you will discover the most common tasks performed by septic services. Enjoy!

Keeping a Septic System Working Properly

Debra Chapman

Having a clogged drain can be extremely frustrating, but there is a specific way that you can go about removing a clog in a septic system. In fact, most people go about removing a clog the wrong way. It is important that you remove a clog the proper way, or you could do lasting damage to your septic system. In an effort to help you maintain a healthy septic system, here are a few things to remember when removing a clog.

Liquids

One of the first things that most individuals will do when they find they have a clog is reach for the liquid drain cleaners. These drain cleaners are extremely powerful bases, PH over 7, and will most definitely blast through a simple clog. However, the powerful base can also do some damage to your septic system. There are bacteria cultures that live in your septic system that help break down all the sewage.

If you over use the liquid drain cleaners, the bacteria that help break down the sewage can die. If the bacteria are killed then the sewage will not break down as readily and you will find your septic system becoming backed up. If you are going to use the liquid drain cleaner, be sure you use it very sparingly.

Pipe Snakes

If you are on a septic system, the first thing that you should do to clean your drain is use a pipe snake. These are long thin cables that can be connected to one another. The pipe snake can be pushed down the drain to physically push the clog and dislodge whatever it is that is blocking your drain. These are extremely effective for simply clogs that are a result of hair, wrappers, and other common products.

Plumber

There is a chance that the pipe snakes does not work, and in this case it is time to call a plumber. The plumber is going to fix a camera at the end of a cable to see what is blocking the pipe. If there is scale or mineral buildup, the plumber will be able to use a high pressure washer to clean the pipe. There is also a chance that the pipe has been kinked or that it has collapsed. In this case the plumber may have to replace the pipe.

No matter what the problem is, a plumber will be able to diagnose and solve the problem. Learn more about drain cleaning through resources like http://www.jarrachcesspool.com.
